What brings you Healing?

What brings you healing? When you go through trauma, how do you find healing, or peace? Do you have specific things you do that help?

Mountains bring me peace. My husband and I like to hike in the mountains. We have pictures of mountains in our home that I have taken on our trips, and pictures we have purchased of the places we have hiked.

Blue sky brings me peace. Clear blue sky. There was none today. But, we went for a walk anyway.

My husband and are going through something right now. It is causing memories of previous unresolved pain. I have cried and raged. I felt overwhelmed and tired of trying to “keep it together”.

I have a “dark thoughts journal” that I occasionally use. Tonight, I wrote my angry, raging thoughts. I wrote until I couldn’t write anymore.

Then, I played the piano. Interestingly, I’m using a technique from my teacher that helps me to have an “empty” feeling in my hands, fingers, and arms, and to use the shoulder girdle and torso muscles to play. I worked on a couple phrases of a Chopin Waltz and focused on letting my fingers be played and placed into the keys. After awhile I noticed a calmness inside me. A sense of feeling whole.

This way of playing is like meditating where the focus is on letting go and calming the mind.
